By Solomon Joseph

We bid a bittersweet farewell to Rocco Anastasio, whose powerful columns have, for years, illuminated the social and political issues affecting our Puerto Rican and Latino communities in Buffalo.

His voice has been a part of our collective narrative.

Now, Rocco turns the page to fully embrace a long-held dream: Buffalo Latino Lens, a project that brings our stories to life through television. This new platform expands on the themes he explored in his writing—culture, struggle, triumph, and everyday life—by showcasing the vibrant Latino experience in Western New York.

The show is Rocco’s brainchild— conceived, founded, and produced with deep intention. Through compelling storytelling and visual media, the project fosters pride, awareness, and cultural preservation. It offers a space where Latino poets, artists, and everyday heroes can share their truths, building bridges across generations and communities.

The show officially premiered on WBBZ TV on September 24th, marking a new chapter in Latino representation in our region. Rocco’s vision is clear: to amplify positive narratives, celebrate diversity, and strengthen unity through authentic media.

As a filmmaker, Rocco brings a rich background in documentary production.

His acclaimed work Boricua Soy Yo— which earned second prize—explores Puerto Rican identity, history, and ancestral roots tracing back to the Taínos. That same depth and passion now fuel Buffalo Latino Lens.

We are proud of Rocco.

His creativity, voice, and platform are essential to the continued growth of Buffalo’s Latino community. We know he will continue to shape our story with integrity and brilliance.
