The old axiom “politics makes for strange bedfellows” has never been so appropriate as in this year’s mayoral race.
Where Rev. Al, one of the leading US civil rights advocates, shares a common agenda with President Trump,
the most racially divisive, xenophobic, and misogynistic Republican leader in American history.
Rev. A1 Sharpton is trying to help Mayor Adams defeat Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani.
It was not surprising that on Sharpton’s “PoliticsNation”, he asked Minority Leader Jeffries
about the alleged charge that Mamdani claimed in his 2009 college application for Columbia University,
that he was bom in Uganda to Indian parents, but identified himself as “Black or African American” as well as Asian.
Jeffries had no comment on this, Sharpton “aiding and abetting” Adams’ maneuver.
This is such a transparent attempt to play the race card by Rev. Shapton, Adams.
and Cuomo, all of whom jumped to denounce Mamdani after a leaked New York Times, aka Televiv Times.
hit piece discovered Mamdani’s college application and pretending they had a startling “exclusive.” Since
Sharpton is in Adams’ comer, he has called for Cuomo to pull out of the race (too late now) to make it a twoman contest between Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, and Adams running as an independent.
Three moderate-to-right candidates like Adams, Cuomo, and Sliwa would divide the vote, helping Mamdani win the
general election. Sharpton and Adams have known each other for 40 years, and clearly, he would welcome a continuation of a Black mayoralty under Adams though steeped in corruption with Mayor Adams in Trump’s pocket. Trump and Sharpton are on the same page since Trump tried to encourage Curtis Sliwa to pull out again to make it a two-person race.
By trying to entice Minority Leader Jeffries to attack Mamdani, Sharpton hoped to bum any bridges that Mamdani is trying to build with the Black community.
whose vote he lost in the primary by 20 points. Though he does have the support of AG Tish James, Council
Speaker Adrienne Adams.
Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, and did well with Black young folks under 45. Young folks are not manipulated by racial appeals that cover corruption and quid pro quo political pacts between the Mayor and President, promoting antiLatino immigrant terrorism.
I am a Latino OG who has borne witness to the rightful demunciations of racial/ethnic exclusion of marginalized communities versus those who opportunistically use the torturous history of oppression against people of color to fortify their agenda.
I usually give Rev. Al a mild political pass because of his solidarity role in support of the Puerto Rican people to stop the bombing of Vieques. But on this one, I can’t give him a pass.
Ididn’t go for the “okey- doke.” Rev. Al, if you want to help Eric Adams, endorse him and quit the racial/ political games.
