BAD BUNNY AT SUPER BOWLBunny to headline Super Bowl 60 Halftime Show in 2026

Event: Super Bowl 60 Halftime Show, Date: February 8, 2026, Location: Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, California -Edited by Alberto O. Cappas In a historic move that’s already ignited both celebration and backlash, Grammy Award-winning Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny will headline the Super Bowl 60 Halftime Show. The announcement marks a milestone not only in his meteoric career but in the evolving narrative of Latin music’s place on America’s biggest stage. This will be Bad Bunny’s second Super Bowl appearance his first was a brief but memorable cameo alongside Shakira and Jennifer Lopez in 2020. But this time, he’s in front and center. And unlike previous halftime spectacles, this one is expected to be performed entirely in Spanish-a bold cultural statement that challenges the long-standing dominance of English-language entertainment in mainstream American media. His selection reflects the NFL’s stated goal of engaging more diverse audiences, especially as Latin music continues to surge in popularity across the U.S., generating over $1.4 billion in revenue last year. The announcement has sparked a wave of political controversy. Critics from MAGA-aligned circles have labeled him “anti-American” and “antiTrump,” citing his outspoken opposition to ICE raids and his decision tot avoid touring touring in the conti nental U.S. due to concerns for his fans’ safety. Former President Donald Trump himself dismissed the choice as “absolutely ridiculous.” claiming he didn’t know who Bad Bunny was.: Cultural Celebration or Political Provocation? The backlash reveals a deeper tension: the persistent framing of Latinos as outsiders even when they are U.S. citizens. Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, and Bad Bunny’s 31-show residency in San Juan was, in fact, a domestic tour. His decision to center Puerto Rico as the cultural mainland flips the script on who gets to define “American” entertainment. His halftime performance is poised1 tot be more than a concert-it’s a cultural reckoning. It forces viewers to confront the reality that Spanish-language music is not fringe, but central. That Puerto Rican identity is not foreign, but foundational. And that resistance. when paired with thythm, can be both beautiful and disruptive. Anticipation Meets Activism: Fans around the world are eagerly awaiting what promises to be a visually stunning and emotionally charged performance. Whether you see it as a celebration of Latin excellence or a flashpoint in America’s culture wars, one thing is certain: Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl 60 halftime show won’t just entertain-it will challenge, inspire, and redefine the Puerto Rican experience and presence in America. NO EXCUSES:MEET BAD BUNNY

-Edited by Alberto O. Cappas Bad Bunny is more than a chart-topping musician- he’s a cultural force whose meteoric rise has made him one of the most influential artists of the 21st century. Bom and raised in Puerto Rico, he carries the island’s rhythm, resistance, and soul into every beat. Early Life & Cultural Roots: Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, known globally as Bad Bunny, was bom in 1994 in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico-just west of San Juan. Raised in a modest household with two younger brothers, he credits his parents a truck driver and a schoolteacher-with instilling discipline, humility, and creative curiosity. Singing in his church choir as a child, he developed a love for reggaeton and global sounds like the Bee Gees. While studying audiovisual communications at the University of Puerto Rico, he bagged groceries to pay tuition-quietly uploading tracks to SoundCloud that would soon echo across the globe. Musical Breakthrough & Innovation: Unlike many Latin artists who pivot to English for mainstream success, Bad Bunny broke barriers by staying rooted in Spanish. His early SoundCloud hits caught fire in 2016, leading to major label deals and collaborations with stars like Cardi B (*I Like It”) and Drake (“Mia”). These tracks introduced non-Spanishspeaking audiences to the vibrant worlds of Latin trap and reggaeton. His album El Último Tour del Mundo became the first Spanish-language album to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200-a historic moment that redefined the boundaries of American pop. Achievements & Recognition: Bad Bunny has earned three Grammy Awards and a nomination for Album of the Year for Un Verano Sin Ti-a Spanishlanguage triumph. As Spotify’s most-streamed global artist, his influence extends far beyond music, shaping the sound and soul of contemporary culture. Versatility & Cultural Impact: Bad Bunny’s reach goes beyond the studio. He’s a fashion icon, a vocal activist, and a fearless performer who’s addressed issues from Puerto Rican politics to gender norms. His surprise appearances in WWE wrestling only underscores his playful versatility. Through it all, he remains a proud ambassador of Puerto Rican identity-resonating with audiences regardless of language or background. Why He Matters: For readers outside Puerto Rico, Bad Bunny is proof that authenticity transcends borders. His career marks a cultural shift-where heritage is celebrated, not concealed. His success ensures that Latin music, stories, and artistry will continue shaping the global entertainment landscape for generations. Puerto Rico: The Sleeping Giant: This small island of three million people disguised as a commonwealth, yet still the oldest colony in the world-has long been a forced possession of the United States. And yet, Puerto Rico has produced world-class scientists, engineers, poets, writers, politicians, Miss America and Miss Universe winners, Athletes Baseball & Boxing), America actors, musicians, and more. Its spiritual presence on the global stage is undeniable. But colonial conditioning runs deep. If only Puerto Ricans could fully recognize the magnitude of their contributions. Perhaps Bad Bunny is the wake-up call-a mirror held up to a people whose brilliance has too often been dimmed by imposed silence. Puerto Rico is not small. It is not weak. It is a sleeping giant. And it is stirring. JENNIFER MECOZZI Candidate for Re-Election, West District

JENNIFER MECOZZI Candidate for Re-Election, West District   Dear Buffalo Community, I’m writing to you today with deep gratitude and renewed commitment as I seek re-election to the West District seat on the Buffalo Board of Education.   For the past nine years, I’ve had the honor of serving our students, families, educators, and staff—advocating for equity, transparency, and meaningful change across Buffalo Public Schools. My journey began in the heart of our city, raised in a working-class Buffalo family and shaped by years of grassroots organizing with PUSH Buffalo. From volunteer to President to Organizing Director, I’ve always believed in the power of community-led transformation. In 2015, after helping keep four “out of time” schools open, our community urged me to run for the Board. Since then, I’ve fought for policies that reflect our values—supporting gender identity protections, ICE policy reforms, and the recognition of Indigenous Peoples/Italian Heritage Day on the BPS calendar. These efforts have led to expanded programming, increased funding, and safer, more inclusive schools.   One of the most impactful shifts has been the growth of our community schools—from just five in 2016 to over thirty today. These schools offer wraparound services like financial, legal, medical, and emotional support, embracing a whole-child approach that uplifts every student and family.   I’ve also invested in governance training—both locally and nationally—to better understand how Buffalo has operated and how we can move forward together. This work has helped our Board set clearer goals, build stronger guardrails, and foster collaboration even when perspectives differ.   As I pursue a fourth term, I do so with eyes wide open to the challenges ahead: a district deficit, ongoing allegations, and the arrival of a new Superintendent. We must also prepare for potential budget cuts and continue analyzing district data to build a more organized, responsive system.   My priorities remain rooted in community: •             Strengthening communication across the district and with families to ensure transparency •             Improving special education practices by working with caregivers to address misclassification and outdated procedures •             Championing the whole-child approach by uplifting athletics, music, and art as essential to student development   Above all, I’m a mother to a 10th grader, a grandmother to three students, and the proud parent of a 2017 valedictorian who now teaches in our district. My family inspires me daily to fight for every child in Buffalo Public Schools. I ask for your support and your vote—not just for me, but for the future we’re building together. Let’s continue to amplify our voices, strengthen our schools, and honor the brilliance of every student.   With gratitude and determination, Jennifer Mecozzi Candidate for Re-Election, West District Buffalo Board of Education Read More From Buffalo Latino Village All Post Community News ANNUAL WESTERN NEW YORK PEACE CENTER DINNER AROUND THE CORNER: October 13, 2025/ ANNUAL WESTERN NEW YORK PEACE CENTER DINNER AROUND THE CORNER:Write down the date, time and location.
