WHY LATINOS VOTED THE WAY THEY DID

It is hoped that Democrats will take heed of recent events, step down from their heights, and acquaint themselves with the community they aim to represent.

I am deeply disappointed with the Latino community’s choices in the recent election. Their overwhelming support for Trump was unexpected and has contributed to his victory as the 47th president of the United States.

The Democratic Party’s failure to connect with the Puerto Rican/Latino community is evident, but the extent of the shift in these presidential elections was surprising.

It seems we voted against our interests this time. With no possibility of change for the next four years, it’s crucial that the Democratic Party learns to engage with the entire community. They need to collaborate with leaders who genuinely represent and work within the community daily, rather than those who are disconnected from the people they claim to represent.

The lack of connection and willingness to work with authentic leaders who embody the dreams and aspirations of their community is a failure on the part of both Democratic politicians and community leaders.

While I am dismayed and ashamed of my community’s actions, I cannot fully fault them. Rather, I believe the defeat of Harris and the victory of Trump can be attributed to the Democrats and their allied communities, not the community at large.

What’s your take?
