B U L L Y I N G

B U L L Y I N G This topic has shown its ugly head in far too many places. Most of us are abhorred at the simple idea of it and many seek solutions to address it. What is bullying? For minors, it is when an individual is taunted, belittled, and sometimes physically assaulted by insecure people. It is usually carried out in packs. They sometimes wrongly justify their actions. It really does not matter the reason before they project their ugliness onto an undeserving individual. Sometimes, it causes so much hardship that socially the individual leaves school, town and/ or maybe ends their life. Decisions taken depends greatly on their inner strength, their support system (if any) and what and who is available to help them salvage their dignity. More times than not, their lives are ruined or close to it when they continue to be invalidated. I think most adults would agree they will not tolerate this type of behavior, especially if they have children in schools. Let’s step back for a minute:  Bullying has existed for centuries and it rests on the shoulders of adults. Yes, adults. When an individual solicits a consensus from their family, co-workers, colleagues or others to belittle or ruin someone’s reputation and credibility, it carries the same implication. In some circles of our society, we call it sexism, racism, ageism, and many other politically definitions but as adults we think we are above bullying. NOT!!!! What makes this situation even worst is the indifference and apathy others show while this is happening. Some may even claim to not know. The irony here is that the prosecuted is usually stronger than the offender but does not have weak followers to be accomplices to their atrocious actions. They have been on a solo journey for so long they would not think of soliciting dysfunctional obedience from anyone around them. I have been a witness and recipient to this type of behavior, adult bullying. Fortunate for me, I had an older brother who protected me while being raised in the ghetto and prepared me on how to handle it later in life. The harsh reality was to accept that it is going to happen. He said only the weak resorts to violence, must be in dysfunctional groups, and only survive when others condone their demented behavior. I not only empowered myself with extensive education, confidence and self-defense but made sure I myself would not resort to adult bullying. It is always the offender who is a coward, low life individual who spends his/her time trying to steal the dignity of others. That I am not! THE JUNGIAN PSYCHOLOGY

THE JUNGIAN PSYCHOLOGY I had the chance and the energy to catch up on some reading, and a section in Dr. Murray Stein’s book, where he is surveying Jungian Psychology, caught my attention. One of the earlier chapters about energy, and how the mind uses it to adapt to its environment, gave me an idea for an experiment to boost one’s control over themselves and be influenced less by their mental constraints by feeding their inner world less energy. The book talks about how when a person is in the process of adapting to his or her environment, they use their mental energy (or as the book calls it, ‘psychic energy’ but that can be confused with less scientific terms)  from a pool of energy, and while generally that energy is used to adapt to one’s environment when that adaptation is complete, the energy does not just go away but begins to sip into their inner world.  This is described as a form of introspection etc., but one thing that we also observe is that after the recovery from the last challenge, a person goes into a stagnant state and begins to regress. This makes perfect sense if you consider that now this person is adapting to their new environment of less challenge. Hence the Roman saying, “comfort breeds complacency and weakness.” I also have a hypothesis, in addition to this adage in the light, that when you are not expending energy to push yourself that energy that goes inwards will feed a person’s complexes, make new ones, and will feed mental problems. The way I like to imagine it is, that if the mind is a factory,  sending too much energy or resources that are not designed to receive so much will lead to leakage or breakage which will cause it to drain even more resources until it is fixed.  Now that the holiday season is over, it is the best time to remind ourselves — that if we are not moving forward, we are moving backward. Not pushing ourselves to achieve our goals, no matter how trivial, will keep us healthy, and should, hopefully, prevent the problems inside ourselves.  During this time, we need to pick our battles and priorities, but just keeping ourselves fighting, can be a victory in/itself. Manifest Diversity

With so many cultures, races and ethnic groups from around the world, wouldn’t it be beneficial to work together instead of against each other?  Why must we ignore the strengths, talents and abilities of those who are different? Is it hard to believe that we can share experiences, knowledge and stories from diverse perspectives of diverse peoples?  Think about all the stories you heard, think about the languages, beliefs and lifestyles. How about the music, do you see any similarities, any differences? What message did you receive? How do you make sense of what you just experienced? These are the questions Manifest Diversity answers. It is a collaboration of experiences, stories and narratives from people around the world. It is about working together to find the collective conscious of people in all shapes and forms. Manifest Diversity does not discriminate. We welcome anyone and anything that creates understanding, respect and compassion. How amazing it would be if we just take the time to learn about each other, find each other and to believe and accept each other. We would like for you to take the time and visit our “manifest diversity community”, a community where judgement, discrimination, hate, racism is not welcomed. The mission of manifest diversity is to establish a society without the ills presently in place in our world.
