New York State: THE LATINOS NOBODY KNOWS

Note: Survey results are unsurprising because we have few influential Latina/o leaders. Many of those surveyed didn’t want to name someone because they knew it was “bullst.” Our leadership’s emphasis on “prominence” overpower, persistent disunity, and service as adjuncts to liberal white supremacy has weakened any real movement for social justice.  Influence is not power but proximity to those who really hold power. That, in a nutshell, is the saga of the jurist LaSalle nomination. The fact that you have Jay-Lo and Mayor Adams (non-Latino) on the survey reveals that those views reflected more “name recognition” than any influence. But they make the “City & State” Magazine list of “influential.” LOL. This is how “Politico” makes fun of us by placing J.Lo on the list, a silly preposition used to garner “hits.” A reflection of the realities of the petite bourgeoisie of a colonized and despised people mentally enchained by a colonial mentality so eloquently captured in Frantz Fanon’s classic work “The Wretched of the Earth.”  Take a minute to read the survey https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5c8e392a94d71a16ff940402/t/64de586110496266c8fc4333/1692293218226/Latino_Poll_Results.pdf?fbclid=IwAR0HWkYqQQlL7nBWBQz2IzgHO3K6TtJQLTqTwL0G2fvF-7RxkEJkJF5gmpI  Political Playbook:  JENNIFER LOPEZ FOR MAYOR? Nearly half of Latino voters in New York couldn’t — or didn’t want to — name an influential Latino leader in the state. Among those that could, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was the most frequently named, with 15 percent, followed by Rep. Adriano Espaillat with 7 percent, and Mayor Eric Adams (who isn’t Latino) at 3 percent. And entertainer Jennifer Lopez at 2.5 percent. That’s according to a survey out Monday by BSP Research, commissioned by the Latino-owned Hamilton Campaign Network. “The main highlight is how little awareness Latinos have of elected officials in general. And Latino elected officials in particular,” the firm’s founding partner, Luis Miranda, said.  He said the losing battle over getting Hector LaSalle on the state’s highest court was one motive for the poll, not to mention all the punditry about what New York Latinos want; good data don’t back that. And 90% want to see more Latinos appointed to high positions. Both Democrats and Republicans could do better to win over Latinos. Miranda said the poll shows: “It’s between benign neglect and hostility.” — Jeff Coltin  https://www.politico.com/newsletters/new-york-playbook/2023/09/11/adams-real-budget-crisis-is-here-00114966 Read More From This Writer All Post Art Books & Poems Business Community Education Entertainment español Food & Culture Health Interviews Military & Veterans Peace People Politics Sports New York State: THE LATINOS NOBODY KNOWS October 1, 2023/No Comments Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. A SENSIBLE HUMANE IMMIGRATION REFORM IS NEEDED NOW

A SENSIBLE HUMANE IMMIGRATION REFORM IS NEEDED NOW A bipartisan sensible humane immigration reform is needed now by our nation. We are facing a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions at our Southern border. Our border is not open as many believe and as the misconception runs throughout the world that if you just show up, you will be allowed in. The current situation at the Southern border, throughout the route leading to the border via Central America and Mexico, is a true humanitarian crisis. We need a bipartisan effort and commitment to pass viable immigration reform. Mayorkas properly expressed it: “The border situation reflects a fundamentally broken immigration system that has not been fixed for more than two decades”. The situation in mass at the border during the middle of May reflects the imperative need for Congress to allocate time, and resources and work across party lines to resolve a humanitarian crisis that is a national interest issue. The border situation, the refugee, and the adjustment of the status of millions of undocumented immigrants is a national security issue that affects all of us not just the border communities and the big democratic cities where migrants are being sent. This is a humanitarian crisis that is impacting domestic matters as it is taxing resources at all levels. It is not a migrant issue; it is a public administration issue. The legalities of civil rights organizations such as the New York Civil Liberties Union suing Orange and Rockland counties in New York City for blocking the arrival of asylum seekers in New York City. The declaration of a state of emergency across municipalities and states signals the imperative need to work together with the federal government. to find concrete solutions to this crisis. We are facing domestic issues in housing, education, criminal justice, employment, and the economy that need to be addressed without losing our humanity and the compassion that defines us as people. The time is now for a sensible, humane, and compassionate immigration reform by Congress. We need to write, advocate, and lobby our elected officials that a nonpartisan solution is needed. Responding to disasters like the surge and the crisis at the border is not fixing the problem, or the broken system we have. The federal crisis has been avoidable for a long time, now it has become a local crisis affecting border towns and extending to all the places where the migrants are being sent to without resources and with the resentment of many. Resources are limited and stretched, without proper planning and proper public administration they will continue to be more limited…the time to act and seek legislation is now. This is not a Latino Caucus matter; this is a Congressional matter that is of interest to all. Take a moment and let your congress members know where you stand and what needs to be done to fix a system broken and in need of repair. LATINOS AND  NEW YORK POLITICS

Looking Back: FAMILIA, IF YOU ASK THE WRONG QUESTION, YOU WILL END UP WITH THE WRONG ANSWER I love my people but some of our leadership can be so gullible. Here we have an article on what Gov. Hochul can do for the people of the island of Puerto Rico. Convenient assertions days before the election and indications some of her Puerto Rican support is hemorrhaging. The question is not what she will do for Puerto Rico, though relevant, the question is what has she ever done for Puerto Ricans anywhere? Hochul had an opportunity to make major New York State Puerto Rican appointments to her administration but instead ‘nada” except for Sec. of State Robert Rodriguez. After undercutting the efforts to elect one of two Latinas (non-boricua Archila and Reyna though with strong support from the Rican community) as Lt. Governor. In that sense, she is the flip side of Mayor Eric Adams. They may have other strengths, but both have treated Puerto Ricans with institutional negligence or outright near contempt. Some of our progressive friends were silent during the Cuomo administration because they too realized that Hochul had done little for the Puerto Rican community and did not want to make disgraced former Gov. Andrew Cuomo looks good. Some even had the audacity to try to sell us, Cynthia Nixon, during her gubernatorial race as a champion of the Puerto Rican people. We have not heard from her since.  Sanganos. How many Puerto Ricans have been appointed at managerial levels in the Hochul administration?  In a community that resided in New York for over 124 years? Are we to assume that because she was not Governor at the time, but Lt. Governor during the Cuomo administration, she gets a free pass for all those years she was wallowing in institutional neglect of the million Puerto Ricans in her state? Most likely Hochul will be elected and the slew of Puerto Rican apologists in our community will seek to explain to us how we have indeed been “truly blessed.” Or they will remind us it could have been worse with Lee Zeldin?  But as the old refrain says “mas saber el diablo viejo, por viejo que por diablo.” (“An old devil knows more from being old than from being the Devil”) Some of us who have been around the block a few times understand the difference between “pandering” and authentic leadership committed to a noble people. In Gov. Hochul, we have the pandering politician. Can she change, doubt it, but time will tell. As lawmakers prepare for Somos, how is Hochul’s relationship with Puerto Rico? — (As lawmakers prepare for Somos, how is Hochul’s relationship with Puerto Rico? — City & State New York (cityandstateny.com) [https://www.gothamgazette.com/…/11644-latinos-hochul…](https://www.gothamgazette.com/130-opinion/11644-latinos-hochul-2022-election-new-york-governor?fbclid=IwAR211Cd35qD97W2fawkpsISa8LoymaYXLo7V3njxtrkY Read More From This Writer All Post Art Books & Poems Business Community Education Entertainment español Food & Culture Health Interviews Military & Veterans Peace People Politics LATINOS AND  NEW YORK POLITICS May 22, 2023/No Comments LATINOS AND  NEW YORK POLITICS Looking Back: FAMILIA, IF YOU ASK THE WRONG QUESTION, YOU WILL END UP WITH THE Read More THE LATINO SWING VOTE: CHICAGO BRANDON JOHNSON TEAM “CHEWS” ON HOW  TO GET CHUY GARCIA SWING VOTE SUPPORT?
