ALLOWING PEOPLE TO DISCOVER THE PERSON I AM.
I’ve done a lot of reflecting over the course of the past few months and in honor of pride, i’d like to reintroduce myself to everyone. my name is Vianca Barreto-Colón, and i am a bisexual woman. i am attracted to both men & woman alike and i have always felt this way. it may come as a surprise to some and not as a surprise to others. either way, i am still very much myself, just a bit more honest.
I’ve always struggled with my sexual identity, ever since i was a child, and being closeted has caused me much self hatred & grief. these past few months have been particularly hard as I’ve gone back and forth about coming out. i’ve been extremely worried about others perception of me, the relationships in my life, my mental and physical well being and so many other aspects of how coming out could change my life. and after much reflection, and much support from my beautiful, wonderful, ever loving family (Beatriz Flores,Jose Flores, Olga Barreto and my brother Victor). I’ve decided to come out, because it is a decision that is in the best interest of my heart, mind and spirit.
I deserve to be happy with myself & my life and i deserve to love and be loved by whomever i so choose. and whether you chose to see this as a personal attack against you, your beliefs, etc.. or choose to see this as an opportunity to get to know me at a more intimate level, that is up to you. i’m no longer making it my responsibility to appease friends or family. thank you for listening, and have the happiest of prides.
Much love from your queer sister/daughter/granddaughter/cousin/friend/whatever…
